IMPROVING LABOR PRODUCTIVITY

Construction of a new motor road for the stockyard of the rolling-mill shop is coming to a close. The motor road is going to enable the billets cast at Kurakhovo Electric Arc Furnace Steel Plant to be delivered directly to the storage area of the rolling-mill shop bypassing the entire plant which is essential for stocking and distributing the steel.

Today, concreting a special area has been almost finished, new premises for the security service are going to be built and a barrier bar is going to be installed. All this will save time during discharging of the steel and will uniform its stocking. Moreover, labor productivity will be improved which is not the least thing.

This area will also accommodate a gasifier which is a tank for condensed oxygen. Today we have been using the oxygen in cylinders supplied to us on a regular basis to cut the billets, however the amount of oxygen in cylinders is sufficient for cutting just 5 or 6 billets. Replacing and connecting a cylinder used to demand great material costs and labor resources as well as time – almost a third part of a shift used to be wasted.

The gasifier capacity is 9 thousand cubic meters. This amount of the condensed oxygen will serve for a week of continuous work which means improved labor efficiency and reduction in transportation costs. The new gasifier was commissioned in May and now is regularly used at the plant.

While there were only a few areas where it was possible to cut steel, now there are connection stations around the entire site which means that it is possible now to schedule work in a way that ensures a continuous cycle.
